Choosing the best land-lease community for your needs

Choosing your beautiful new mini home is a big step, but there’s another piece of the puzzle that you need to put in place to make your home ownership dreams come true – you have to work out where you’re going to place that home. For most of our clients, that means choosing a land-lease community in the HRM (although some do choose to place the home on their own piece of land). We wanted to give you a primer on which land-lease communities suit what people, depending on their preferred lifestyle and where they are in their lives.

The most family friendly parks. Ten Beaches Estates is a great option for families not only because, like the name implies, you’re close to some of the prettiest beaches in the province, but also because of the opportunities that it offers young people. The school system that this park feeds into is great, and there’s a grant available for children who attend high school in the area (the Shatford Education Trust Fund) to help finance their educational future. Woodbine Park is also an attractive option for families, with good schools around the park and a brand new playground on-site. Sackville Estates is another popular choice for families, as the community feeds into the high-performing Millwood School System, and you’re close to many sporting facilities and family-friendly amenities.

Parks for nature lovers. If having space and being away from the hustle and bustle of the city is important to you, then our first choice is going to be Valley Gate Park. Just 15 minutes away from Sackville, Valley Gate offers access to trails for hiking and ATVing, parks, lakes to swim in and fish in, and just about any other outdoor pursuit that you could want. You’re surrounded by nature in Valley Gate Park, and because the community bumps up against a greenbelt you can rest easy knowing that no more development is going to diminish that natural beauty. Woodbine Park also backs on to woodlands, and the lots are some of the most spacious in the HRM, so this is also a park worth checking out if you want to be close to nature.

A downsizer’s dream. Our parks are incredibly popular with downsizers for many reasons, and to be honest all have their particular charms. Location-wise, Ten Beaches Estates is a gorgeous park for retirees who love walking on white sand beaches, and is close enough to everything you need to live your healthiest and happiest life. Sackville Estates is a great choice because you’re close enough to transit that you don’t need a vehicle to access all amenities, and also because of the strong sense of community that they have there.

Young professionals. Woodbine Park is always a popular choice for young professionals because of its proximity to all the amenities they want and need in a community (movie theatre, restaurants, shopping etc) but also because its central location gives easy access downtown Halifax, the airport, and just about everywhere. We’ve also seen an influx of young professionals moving to Ten Beaches Estates because they love being able to live that South Shore dream while staying in a reasonable budget that suits their stage of life.
