How to choose your perfect mini home

Making the decision to buy a mini home is an important step towards home ownership, but given how many beautiful Kent mini homes there are to choose from, how do you work out which one is going to be the best for you in the long term? In this blog post we’d like to address some of the things that we get our clients to think through when they come to look at homes.

Be forward thinking. When buying a home you need to consider not only the size of your family now, but also how your family is likely to evolve or grow in the next few years. If you’re planning to have kids, or will need a home office, you want to ensure that the home you choose has the space to accommodate that. If you’re downsizing, or looking for a home to spend your retirement years in, then you might want to look into accessibility features such as walk-in showers.

Location location location! Where you are going to place your new mini home is an important consideration. For one, you need to ensure that the lot you’ve chosen in a land lease community (if that is where you are going to place your new mini home) is going to be big enough to accommodate the home. Kent mini homes range in size from 40ft to 74ft long – that’s a big difference! Aside from the practicalities of where to put your home, you’ll also want to choose a community that best suits your individual needs (or the needs of your family). Breakdown the costs. Before choosing a new mini home, you need to have a realist budget worked out. Havill’s offers a range of floor plans and finishes to suit every budget, but knowing exactly how much you can spend in advance of looking at homes is going to be really helpful. As well as the actual home, there are going to be some closing costs, and costs associated with moving into a land lease community. Again, our team can help you through this process.

Think about the features. When you think about your dream home, does it have a big kitchen with an island and butcher’s block? Oak cabinets? A walk-in pantry? Or is having two bathrooms more important so that you don’t have to share a bathroom with your kids? Perhaps you’ve always wanted cathedral ceilings?
