For accessible living, mini homes can’t be beat

Traditionally, mini homes have always been a great option for downsizers and retirees for many reasons, one strong reason being how easily adaptable they are for those with mobility issues.

When you own one of our new Kent mini homes, it can help you maintain your independence and stay in your perfect home as you get older. Mini homes are also a fantastic option for younger folks with mobility issues, offering space and privacy in a luxurious home of your own that’s designed to help you live easily and comfortably.

“While around five percent of our homes are sold to people with mobility issues of some kind, many more come to us because they are anticipating that their needs will change over the years and they want a home that will continue to serve their needs,” our Sales Manager and Home Consultant Viola Selk-Tramble explains, “That said, many people have no idea just how accessible these homes can be. When they find out, they are usually pleasantly surprised and very impressed.”

Our homes come with many standard accessibility features: 36-inch wide doors suitable for wheelchairs or walkers, flooring options throughout that don’t require transition strips, and raised power outlets and lowered light switches, and around half of our homes already offer an upgraded seated shower system.

You can customize your new mini home in a number of ways to make it even more accessible. Kitchen countertops can be lowered to chair height, and you can opt for no cabinets beneath a countertop to be able to roll under the countertop and fully enjoy prepping food in your gorgeous new kitchen. Grab bars are available for bathrooms, and we ensure that everything is installed by the time your new home is delivered to you.

When you own a mini home, everything is one level and you have your own front and back doors that you can access via a purpose-built ramp—installed before you move in—so there’s no need to navigate multiple doorways and complicated entry systems like you’d have to in a condo or apartment.

If you have mobility issues and would like to hear how a new mini home could meet your needs, reach out to one of our team members and arrange for your own free home consultation. We’re here to answer any questions that you may have and to help your dreams of home ownership come true.
